The paper aims at giving a few methodological suggestions in deterministic earthquake prediction studies based on combined ground-based and space observations of earthquake precursors. Up to now what is lacking is the demonstration of a causal relationship with explained physical processes and looking for a correlation between data gathered simultaneously and continuously by space observations and ground-based measurements. Coordinated space and ground-based observations imply available test sites on the Earth surface to correlate ground data, collected by appropriate networks of instruments, with space ones detected on board of LEO satellites. At this purpose a new result reported in the paper is an original and specific space mission project (ESPERIA) and two instruments of its payload. The ESPERIA space project has been performed for the Italian Space Agency and three ESPERIA instruments (ARINA and LAZIO particle detectors, and EGLE search-coil magnetometer) have been built and tested in space. The EGLE experiment started last April 15, 2005 on board the ISS, within the ENEIDE mission. The launch of ARINA occurred on June 15, 2006, on board the RESURS DK-1 Russian LEO satellite. As an introduction and justification to these experiments the paper clarifies some basic concepts and critical methodological aspects concerning deterministic and statistic approaches and their use in earthquake prediction. We also take the liberty of giving the scientific community a few critical hints based on our personal experience in the field and propose a joint study devoted to earthquake prediction and warning.  相似文献

From 44 spectra obtained at Asiagno in 1969–1971, we infer the orbital elements of the double lines system LY Aur. The mass-functions indicate rather massive components, with mass ratio 0.58±0.03. This is in good agreement with a contact photometric solution found by Eaton (1978). Combination of spectroscopic and photometric data yields the following absolute elements:m 1=13,m 2=22, separation 34.5,R 1=11,R 2=15, in solar units.A short comment on the large number of massive contact systems is given.  相似文献

Radial velocity observations of V 1010 Oph obtained at Asiago from 23 spectra combined with those published by Guinan and Koch (1977) reveal a significant eccentricity (e0.20±0.03) with a periastron angle close to 90° at 1 level. There is a widespread interest to digitize the precious information contained in the astronomical plate archives, both for the preservation of their content and for its fast distribution to all interested researchers in order to achieve their better scientific exploitation. This paper presents the first results of our large-scale project to digitize the archive of plates of the Italian Astronomical Observatories and of the Specola Vaticana. Similar systems, composed by commercial flat-bed retro-illuminated scanners plus dedicated personal computers and acquisition and analysis software, have been installed in all participating Institutes. Ad-hoc codes have been developed to acquire the data, to test the suitability of the machines to our scientific needs, and to reduce the digital data in order to extract the astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic content. Two more elements complete the overall project: the provision of high quality BVRI CCD sequences in selected fields with the Campo Imperatore telescopes, and the distribution of the digitized information to all interested researchers via the Web. The methods we have derived in the course of this project have been already applied successfully to plates taken by other Observatories, for instance at Byurakan and at Hamburg.  相似文献

From 59 spectra collected at Asiago from 1969 to 1976, we obtain the spectroscopic orbit of the binary V 505 Mon. The rather long periodP=53.7805 days and semiamplitudeK 1=83±4 km s–1 of the primary component imply a fairly large mass of the secondary (m 23.2±0.4m ). Apparently also lines of this latter have been recorded, thus indicating highly massive components (m 150,R 1=26,m 227,R 2=14, in solar units) in a detached system (separation 255R ). The already reported variation of 0.15 mag., with period about one day, together with H emission, we detected, point toward a possible massive X-ray progenitor.  相似文献
