A coastal observatory for long-term continuous measurements of oceanological parameters and real-time data transfer via the Internet to remote users is described. The observatory was designed at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology (SIO) and tested at its southern branch (SB) in the Black Sea. The architecture, components, and design principles of the observatory are discussed along with its application for solving problems of water dynamics in the coastal zone. Conductivity models were compiled in two geological provinces with thinsediments. The first province is the margin of the Precambrian East EuropeanPlatform. The second one is the Phanerozoic Rhenish Massif as a part of CentralGermany Hercinicum. In both provinces, a conducting layer was revealed at thebase of the upper crust by the magnetotelluric soundings. Its depth is around10 km in the East European Platform and around 15 km in the Rhenish Massif.The conductance of the layer reaches a few tens of Siemens in the first provinceand is almost an order of magnitude greater in the second one.A good correlation between the conductor and a seismic wave-guide (low-velocityzone) exists at the base of the upper crust. Simultaneous decrease of both electricalresistivity and seismic velocity, suggests an increase of porosity and permeability inpresence of saline water. The depth of rheological weak layer in the PhanerozoicRhenish Massif corresponds to the commonly accepted depth of the thermallyinduced brittle/ductile transition. Contrary similar layer in the Precambrian EasternEuropean Platform is much shallower than the thermally induced transition. Somenew mechanism should be considered.  相似文献

The origin of background fluctuations in the natural electric field observed in the measurements on the seafloor of shallow seas and oceans, as well as in the lakes and estuaries of large rivers is considered. It is shown that the presence of these fluctuations, which have a quasi-harmonic behavior, is due to the surface waves and can be accounted for by the action of the (1) magnetohydrodynamic and/or (2) electrokinetic effects, with the predominance of the latter in the freshwater basins. The excitation models of the background fluctuations in the electric field by both the long surface waves and interacting short waves are analyzed. The estimates of the electric field of background fluctuations are obtained.  相似文献

A technique for studying near-shore currents is assessed that is alternative to the traditional methods. The technique is based on the measurements of anomalous electromagnetic fields induced on land in the near-shore zone. The method of coastal electromagnetic monitoring was tested in the central part of the Zimnii Coast of the Gorlo of the White Sea. The results of numerical modeling of electric fields induced by tidal currents allowed us to obtain theoretical estimates of the expected signal and to choose the site of the measurements and the optimal parameters of the receiving lines applied. The experimental studies were performed on the Zimnii Coast of the Gorlo of the White Sea using two horizontal receiving lines, one of which was located on the coast and the other ran in the sea. These studies provided experimental estimates of the electric field of the tides in the Gorlo of the White Sea, which agreed with the theoretical evaluations. The results of the studies proved the efficiency of the method of coastal electromagnetic monitoring, which may be used in order to study tidal, offset-onset (surge), and quasi-stationary currents. An important advantage of the electromagnetic methods lies in the possibility to perform the studies throughout the year, including the winter period.  相似文献

The review covers the main results of the oceanic electromagnetic studies presented during last 4–5 years. Seafloor electromagnetic observations are dedicated to studies in solid Earth geophysics and oceanography. Thus, a large range of objectives and targets are under investigation. Technological and theoretical advances provide an increase of quantity and quality of the collected seafloor data. The host conductivity models for oceanic crust and mantle are being developed; the possibility of obtaining useful structural constraints in heterogeneous environment are discussed. Significant oceanographic results were derived from electromagnetic field observations; these appeared to be a new powerful method for study of long-term large-scale ocean variability.  相似文献

We analyze the data obtained when the Konus-Wind gamma-ray spectrometer detected a giant flare in SGR 1806-20 on December 27, 2004. The flare is similar in appearance to the two known flares in SGR 0526-66 and SGR 1900+14 while exceeding them significantly in intensity. The enormous X-ray and gamma-ray flux in the narrow initial pulse of the flare leads to almost instantaneous deep saturation of the gamma-ray detectors, ruling out the possibility of directly measuring the intensity, time profile, and energy spectrum of the initial pulse. In this situation, the detection of an attenuated signal of inverse Compton scattering of the initial pulse emission by the Moon with the Helicon gamma-ray spectrometer onboard the Coronas-F satellite was an extremely favorable circumstance. Analysis of this signal has yielded the most reliable temporal, energy, and spectral characteristics of the pulse. The temporal and spectral characteristics of the pulsating flare tail have been determined from Konus-Wind data. Its soft spectra have been found to contain also a hard power-law component extending to 10 MeV. A weak afterglow of SGR 1806-20 decaying over several hours is traceable up to 1 MeV. We also consider the overall picture of activity of SGR 1806-20 in the emission of recurrent bursts before and after the giant flare.  相似文献
