Analysis of Lunar Terrain Altitudes and Correlation Links between the Terrain and Gravitational Field; Preliminary Conclusions on the Global Density Inhomogeneities of the Lunar Crust

The harmonic and statistical analysis of lunar terrain altitudes has been performed based on the procedure developed by the authors. The explanations for the displacements of the Moon's figure relative to the center of mass and for the shift of the major equatorial axis relative to the earthward direction have been given. The maps have been plotted for the density anomalies in the near-surface layers of the Moon that correspond to mascons (with negative correlation between the field and terrain mainly for N= 10, 11) and other variants of links between the gravitational field and terrain (with positive correlation between the field and terrain). It has been shown that the harmonics of the degree N= 5–9 mainly correspond to the isostatic compensation of the terrain in the near-surface layers of the crust; the low harmonics (N< 5) correspond to the isostatic compensation of the terrain in the deeper layers, while the harmonics of the degrees N > 11 may indicate the presence of tension in the crust generated by small structures of the terrain. Based on the maps, possible locations of deposits of volatile elements (mainly on the far side of the Moon and in the northern cir-cumpolar region) and other natural resources have been determined.

Effect of Hydrological Conditions on Zooplankton Formation in the Lower Reaches of the Pregolya R. (Baltic Sea Basin)

The study is focused on the species composition, distribution, population dynamics, biomass, and production of zooplankton in the lower reaches of the Pregolya R., subject to the effect of specific hydrological conditions. The characteristics of the seasonal dynamics of zooplankton population, biomass, and production in autumn (October, November) were found to be high because of euryhaline crustaceans Eurytemora affinis and Acartia sp., which enter the river with water setups from the bay. The total zooplankton production over the vegetation season in river medial and riparian zones were similar (8.3 and 7.1 kcal/m³, respectively), the production rates were at the level typical of the riparian systems.  相似文献

Hot Neutral H in the Heliosphere: Elastic H-H, H-p Collisions

Williams et al. (1997) have suggested that a population of hot hydrogen atoms is created in the heliosphere through elastic H-H collisions between energetic `solar' atoms (neutralized solar wind) and interstellar atoms. They used a BGK-like approximation (Bhatnagar et al., 1954) for the Boltzmann collision term and the collision cross sections suggested by Dalgarno (1960). We show that both assumptions result in a significant overestimation of the the H-H collision effect. On the basis of calculated momentum transfer cross-sections for elastic H-H collisions, we argue that elastic H-H and H-p collisions cannot produce hot H atoms in the heliosphere.
