The development of interoperable environmental process models is widely supported by both the research community and government agencies. This paper discusses a conceptual framework to guide the delineation of process components, the basic unit of interoperable models. The concepts of semantic reference system and dual hierarchy are explored to establish the conceptual framework. Based on this discussion, the Formal Concept Analysis is used as an analytical approach to decompose and fuse existing environmental process models in order to identify environmental process components. For purposes of discussion, a hydrological process, surface runoff, is used throughout the paper as an example of an environmental process to support the conceptual discussion and to illustrate the application of the conceptual framework and analytical approach. 相似文献

The integration of topographic data sets is defined as the process of establishing relationships between corresponding object instances in different, autonomously produced, topographic data sets of the same geographic space. The problem of integrating topographic data sets is in finding these relationships, considering the differences in content and abstraction. A conceptual framework is developed. Components of this framework are ontologies and sets of surveying rules. New in this approach is the introduction of a reference model. A reference model belongs uniquely to the combination of topographic data sets to be integrated. The framework is tested on two topographic data sets with area instances (polygons) which have crisp and complete boundaries and are not displaced for cartographic reasons. The overall conclusion is that the ontology-based framework is feasible, if (1) there is (at least partial) knowledge of the surveying rules, and (2) the data sets can be synchronized in time. The application of this framework is most suitable for object classes with instances that are easy to identify and have a limited spatial extent (e.g., buildings). 相似文献

Given the current lack of interoperability between global and regional land cover products, efforts are underway to link the new European global land cover map (GLOBCOVER) with the existing global land cover 2000 map (GLC2000) and European CORINE mapping initiative. Since both datasets apply different mapping standards, key for a successful implementation is a thorough understanding of the heterogeneities among both datasets. Thus, this paper provides an assessment of compatibilities and differences between the CORINE2000 and GLC2000 datasets. The comparative assessment considers inconsistencies between the thematic legends (using the UN land cover classification system-LCCS), class specific accuracies, and the spatial resolution and heterogeneity of the datasets. The results are summarized with implications for the development of the new GLOBCOVER datasets. 相似文献

As soon as the first data became available online over the Internet, it was obvious that different sites holding related datasets
should appear to the end user as a single data system, even if the data itself is stored at multiple locations. To achieve
this objective in the context of continuing parallel development of multiple data centres, in 2003 several actors in the realm
of space plasmas created the international consortium Space Physics Archive Search and Extract (SPASE). Since 2005 US participation
in SPASE has been supported by NASA, and early in 2006 NASA funded five new Virtual Observatories to cater for different aspects
of solar system plasma science. This paper outlines the current status of the SPASE effort, the opportunities it offers, its
specificities with respect to other parts of the astronomical virtual observatory, and the possibilities it offers for space
weather.

This paper presents a new technique for information fusion. Unlike most previous work on information fusion, this paper explores the use of instance‐level (extensional) information within the fusion process. This paper proposes an algorithm that can be used automatically to infer the schema‐level structure necessary for information fusion from instance‐level information. The approach is illustrated using the example of geospatial land‐cover data. The method is then extended to operate under uncertainty, such as in cases where the data are inaccurate or imprecise. The paper describes the implementation of the fusion method within a software prototype. Finally, the paper discusses several key topics for future research, including applications of this work to spatial‐data mining and the semantic web. 相似文献
