Getting Personal: Reflexivity,Positionality, and Feminist Research*   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:1  
Feminist and poststructural challenges to objectivist social science demand greater reflection by the researcher with the aim of producing more inclusive methods sensitive to the power relations in fieldwork. Following a discussion of contrasting approaches to these power relations, I present a reflexive examination of a research project on sexual identities. My reflections highlight some of the key ethical questions that face researchers conducting fieldwork, especially with regard to the relationship between the researcher and those being researched. My discussion of these dilemmas reflect the situated and partial nature of our understanding of “others.” I argue that the researcher's positionality and biography directly affect fieldwork and that fieldwork is a dialogical process which is structured by the researcher and the participants.  相似文献

We recommend use of the widely available computer package GLIM to analyze relationships involving categorical, or qualitative, variables. The package is flexible and fairly simple to use and readily produces data plots as well as information on parameter estimates and residual values. In order to explain how to fit log-linear and logistic-linear models using GLIM, we give two examples based on sample survey data from grocery shoppers in Oxford, England. In the first, we examine relationships between a categorical response to an attitude statement and categorical explanatory variables using the log-linear model and, in the second, relationships between use and a mixture of continuous and categorical explanatory variables using the logistic-linear (logit) model.  相似文献

In this paper I reflect on some key methodological tensions that emerged during my PhD research. The research critically analyses the political struggles of outworking1 women from Chinese, Vietnamese and Cambodian backgrounds in Sydney, Australia, for minimum wages and a monitoring of ethical networks in the clothing industry from 1997 to 2002. Rather than present 'key findings' in this paper I instead reveal how I began to think more critically and in less absolute ways about reading the multiple voices of outworkers, NGO workers and my own voice as researcher, activist and English teacher. I drew insights from Bakhtin's dialogism for thinking about research as shaped by sets of conversations. In this paper I reflect on several 'in-the-field' interactions: organising interviews, interviewing outworkers through an interpreter, storytelling in a rights-based English class setting, and how I and other participants represented outworking women in different forums. Dialogism required I take seriously the concept that knowledges are socially constructed in very particular contexts and this led to a rejection of my earlier notion of a singular authentic voice for outworking women or for me as researcher.  相似文献
