Abstract: | In view of the random characteristics in the inputs of a sediment transport formula, it is important for a river engineer to assess the uncertainty features associated with the sediment transport rate. This paper applies three methods, namely, the first order variance estimation method, point estimation method, and Latin hypercubic sampling technique, to analyze the uncertainty and sensitivity of the calculated sediment transport rates from the Einstein bedload function and Yang's formula. From the various test cases, the results reveal that flow velocity, in both sediment transport formulas, is the most important input contributing to the uncertainty and sensitivity of the sediment transport rate. |
