Abstract: | During the recent 1983 eruption of Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii, a field measurement of electrical resistivity was made in an
1118°C molten lava flow. A probe containing a four electrode. Wenner aray was inserted into the molten basaltic lava flow
at a point about 100 m from the erupting vent. The probe indicated an electrical resistivity of approximately 40 ohm-m for
the freshly-erupted molten lava. This value is consistent with existing, but sparce, laboratory data for molten rock in this
temperature range.
