| Abstract: | In Crustacea,neurosecretion is believed to be one of major routes in the control of vari ous physiological activities.X-organ-sinus gland complex(XOSG),an unique neurosecretory organ in some crustacean,has drawn increasing research attention because of its important mediating roles and favourable anatomical proprieties.The so-called "eyestalk hormones",produced mainly by the neurosecretory cells in this complex,have been reported to exert significant regulation on a number of crucial metabolic processes,such as gonadal development,ecdysis and pigment migration.Morphological studies on this complex are necessary in order to understand its physiological roles since it may function in an unique manner,in sharing the characteristics of both nervous and secretory tissues. |
