Abstract:Wetlands play a very important role in supporting economic and social sustainable development. In recent years, with the rapid economic development, the quantitative decrease and functional degradation of wetlands in Shenzhen have weakened their ecological and social benefits. There are three main types of wetlands in Shenzhen: coastal wetlands, rivers and lakes.Their areas account for 8.12% of the total of Shenzhen.Currently, the wetlands in Shenzhen are confronted with manifold threats: the area of coastal wetland is decreasing gradually, and environment is deteriorated;the survival of the mangrove and waterweeds is imperiled;the pollution of the rivers is aggravated. For protection and restoration of wetland resources in Shenzhen, some suggestions are brought forward: 1) to strengthen the protection of coastal beaches in the western areas;2) to control the pollution and restore the natural river wetlands;3) to strengthen the construction and management of the nature reserves and wetland parks;4) to enhance monitoring and scientific research on wetlands, and to develop actively international cooperation and exchange.
