Abstract:In the experiment of controlled ecosystem in which plankton was the main organism, dissolved inorganic carbon and DOC were estimated to be 89.75% and 10.25% respectively in the carbon reservoir in seawater. However, planktonic carbon and bacterial carbon were 5.43% and 7.39% respectively in the organic cabon reservoir, suggesting that bacteria played an important role in carbon circulation in seawater, which could be confirmed from the analyses of samples collected in shrimp ponds. Carbon absorption rates of organisms increased with the increase of food densities in ~(14)C- labelling experiment in the food chain, nevertheless, the optimum food density should be determined separately because the utilizable proportions of foods vary. Nutrient elements were continuously transported from lower trophic levels to higher trophic levels as shown in the ~(14)C-tracer study on the polyculture of fish and shrimp, and the average percentages of ~(14)C-radioactivity in the biological samples were 84.63% for Platymonas suboordiformis, 8.99% for Artemia salina, 0.97% for Penaeus penicillatus and 5.42% for Liza Carinatus.
Keywords:carbon circulation  marine culture  experimental study
