| Abstract: | It is necessary to capture a large amount of geographic information to crcate a geographic information system. The elevation of earth surface, which serves as an important component of geographic information, can be acquired mainly by digitizing the contours on topographic maps. The information representing a contour consists of the coordinates of its feature points and its height. The topology and its expressions of closed contours are discussed. The algorithms of determining the topology of closed contours according to the coordinates of their feature points is proposed. On this basis, a strategy of automated capture of the heights for closed contours are developed. Experiments show that the methods described in this paper are correct and practicable. |
