Abstract: | A review is presented of "traceability" and the way this concept can be demonstrated in the analysis of geochemical samples. It is suggested that the two practical methods are (i) by the analysis of appropriate certified reference materials with an evaluation of the agreement between analysed and certified values, and (ii) by the appropriate use of definitive, reference and standard methods of analysis. The differences between these two methods of demonstrating traceability are considered and the difficulties in applying them are discussed. |
