Abstract:One new method is introduced in the study of drawing distribution graph of surface sediment types at seabed. Assumed that the proportional numerical value which composed the distribution of surface sediment types at seabed satisfied the gradual change process with linearity or nonlinearity. Finite interpolation points are densely arranged with a joint less method in the drawing sea area to avoid the interpolation problem with types which has difficulty in operation. The proportional numerical value which includes sand, silt and clay at the sediment sample point is directly used to interpolate the interpolation points respectively. Shepard classified scheme of surface sediment is used to determine the sediment type of every point. Then the distribution graph of surface sediment types is formed by specified color of different sediment types. The results show that the new method is superior to the conventional one when drawing surface sediment types distribution graph at seabed. The new method is advised to be used widely in the oceanography.
