Abstract: | The inelastic responses of framed structures and seismic isolation systems undergoing biaxial (horizontal) shaking are coupled. In existing models for biaxial coupling of hysteretic behavior, the smoothness (or ‘knee') of the transition from elastic to yielding behavior cannot be modified without affecting the shape of the yield surface. This paper presents a model for coupled biaxial hysteretic behavior in which the knee from pre‐yield to post‐yield can be adjusted while maintaining an isotropic yield surface.
