Abstract:In attempting to explain observed hard X-ray and microwave flux from solar flares by a single population of energetic electrons, one has met a serious discrepancy of the order of 103–105 between the calculated and observed microwave flux. In this paper it is shown that this discrepancy can be removed for impulsive flares by the assumption of a precipitation model for both X-ray and microwave sources and that the magnetic field of 500–1000 G is required in the microwave emitting region. The precipitation model is consistent with the rapid time variation exhibited in both hard X-rays and microwaves.Proceedings of the Workshop on Radio Continua during Solar Flares, held at Duino (Trieste), Italy, 27–31 May, 1985.
