Abstract:The Various experimental results from potentiometric methods have shown that no clearand definite evidence of ion pair HCl° is formed in HCl or HCl-HClO4 ageous solution.The KHCl* to be computed by means of a potentiometric method introduced by Johnson et al.is indeed not a stoichiometric association constant of HCl°,because it has something to do not only with the ionic strength of solution,but also with the composition of solution.Therefore,it is not suitable to extend it to the system of seawater.Besides,HCl° ion pair has not been observed directly in HCl solution by various modern physical experiments.Thus we can draw a conclusion that the validity of normal HCl solution as well as HClO4 solution still has the nature of no association.While considering the validity of chemical model of seawater constructed we can also neglect the association of H+ with Cl-.
