Abstract: | The North Sea is a relatively shallow body of water in an enclosed area with limited exchanges with the Atlantic Ocean. The impact of humans has become a threat to the continued welfare of this very important sea. The role in policy-making of the North Sea Task Force (NSTF), which operated from 1988–1993, are reviewed and its main results as a scientific body presented. Further developments to improve the scientific knowledge of environmental problems in the North Sea are suggested. |
