| Abstract: | Summary A number of cut-off processes are investigated, with the Alpine region in most cases lying at the margins of these upper lows. Our aim was to determine whether the thermal front parameter (TFP) can be used to objectively define the areas of bad weather from analysis charts and prognostic charts. An attempt is made to formulate two synoptic  guidelines , for the eastern Alpine region, on front-sides and northern margins of upper lows, into objective synoptic rules.With 7 Figures |
