Abstract: | A functional chart and a theory of the wire extensometer that compensates for wire creep, as well as baric and thermal effects, are described. In combination with the interior geodetic datum, the device is shown to be suitable for intermediate base (up to several hundred meters) observations of deformations in the Earth’s crust in superficial trenches; furthermore, it allows for a significant decrease in the mounting and operating costs as a result of implementing a network of areal deformation observations. |
