Abstract:A recently observed broad 3.4 μm spectral ‘fingerprint’ in a persistent Leonid meteor train at a height of 83km is likely to be due to emission of surrounding mesospheric bacteria heated by the passage of an incandescent fireball. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.
