The Shiwu Formation in the southern Songliao Basin and the characters of its sporo-pollen assemblage
Abstract:The Shiwu Formation, consisting of terrigenous clastic rocks of up to 2500m thick, is widely distributed in the Shiwu fault depression in the southern part of the Songliao Basin with a distributive area of about 1600km2. This formation yields sporo-pollens fossils characterized by an abundance of Classopollis or Cyathidites, which constitutes Classofollis-Cyathidites-Tricolpopollenites Assemblage, and may be correlated with the Guantou Formation in western Zhejiang, Lingxiang Group in Hubei, Dongjing Formation in Hunan, Gecun Formation in Jiangsu and Tonohata Formation in Northeast Japan. It is regarded to be of Aptian age (Middle Cretaceous).
