Abstract:Weathering of superficial limestone debris is described from stone pavements on the Hamada de Meski in southeast Morocco. The dominant features are due to surface and subsurface solution. Mechanical weathering and aeolian action have only a limited effect. Microfeatures produced by solution include solution facetting, microrills, solution pits, case-hardening, micropitting or “vesicular weathering” and possibly surface crazing. Such microforms are the most likely representatives of a truly arid Karst.
