Restudies on the Wujiaping Limestone from Liangshan of Hanzhong, Shaanxi
Abstract:The Wuchiaping Limestone was proposed by Lu Yan-hao in 1956. The type locality is at Liangshan of Hanzhong, Shaanxi, This limestore can be classified into 32 Units, of which Units 1 to 16 belong to the Wuchiapingian Stage, and Units 17 to 32 to the Changhsingian Stage. The Wuchiapingian, about 232. 1 m thick, is mainly composed of Light grey and grey wackestone and packstone as well as a few mudstones containing the Codonofusiella zone, Hemigordius wuchiapingensis assemblage zone, Neogondolella bitteri-N. liangshanensis zone, Liangshanophyl-lum lui-L. wuae assemblage zone, and Cymnocodium bellerophotus, Permocalculus (Pyrulites) fragilis. etc. The Changhsingian is about 154. 93 m thick, consisting of light grey and light brownish grey grainstone and packstone, with the Palaeofusulina minima-Gallowaymella subzo-ne below and the Palaeofusulina sinensis subzone above, the Pararobuloides orientalis-Multidis-cus perforatus assemblage zone below and the Damarita altilis-D. chanakckensis assemblage zone above, the Waagenophyllum minutum zone and Permocalculus (Pyrulites) sinicus, etc. The characters of lithofacies and biofacies indicate that during Wuchiapingian time, the sedimentary environment of the type locality was of open, warm, clean and shallow water with a normal salinity and suffcient oxygen as well as lower energy. However, during Changhsingian time, sea water was shallower than that of Wuchiapingian time and the lower energy environment had changed into a medium and high energy one on account of successive regressions.
