Abstract: | Organic buildups (biostromes and bioherms) were established for the first time in the coal-bearing formation of the Lvov-Volynsk coal basin. Colonial rugose corals of the Siphonodendron genus represented the main bioherm-builders. Coral buildups were formed under shallow marine conditions and located within the active tectonic region at the southwestern margin of the East European Platform. The region represents a northwest-trending band (10–12 km wide) extending over more than 70 km. The studied late Visean coral bioherms and biostromes are similar to coeval ones from some European regions. |
