摘    要:从李四光教授对地层古生物、第四纪冰川和地质力学三方面的研究,来介绍他的学术思想和科研成果以及他的地壳运动的理论。为便于有关学者进一步了解他的学术思想和科研成果,特将他上述三方面的主要著作附录于后。

LI SlGUANG'S ACADEMIC THOUGHT AND CONTRIBUTION——THE CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF THE OUTSTANDING EARTH SCIENTIST LI SIGUANG (J.S. LEE)

Abstract:The paper gives an introduction of Li Siguang's academic thought and achievements in three aspects, on stratigraphic paleontology, Quaternary glaciology and geomechanics. He consulted a vast amount of geological data of China and foreign countries and aimed at indigenous geologieal problems of China to research, identify and analyze the objective reality of Chinese geology so that he achieved these great successes. Here, tke writer would like to go into the geomechanics study, in this aspect, Professor Li Siguang found his theory and research method about the crust movement. He considered that one of the main causes of the earth crust movement can only be explained from the change of rate in velocity of the earth's rotation, because the angular momentum of a rotating body remains unchange. This universal law can be expressed generally by the formula ωI=C, where ω is the angular velocity of the rotating body, I is its moment of inertia and C is a constant. The tectonic movement of the crust constitutes an automatic mechanism to control the earth's rotation. In other words, increase of the earth's rotation will involve processes that tend to slow the rotation down. This is the unity of opposites, agreeing with general law demonstrated by many natural phenomena. At the end of the paper, some opinions of Chinese and foreign personages that comment to Professor Lies achievement of scientific research are cited and a list of his main works is attached.
