Adequacy of field pullout testing of soil nails
Abstract:In practice, field pullout testing of soil nails is a widely accepted method for the construction quality control and the performance assessment of soil nail walls. At the design stage, field pullout tests provide useful information about the design bond strength of the nail–soil interface, which is critical in the determination of minimum soil nail length. To obtain a reliable and representative estimate of the design bond strength, it is necessary to conduct a sufficient number of field pullout tests. This study demonstrates the use of the concepts of simple random sampling and stratified random sampling to assess the adequacy of the ultimate bond strength adopted for design based on the minimum recommended number of field pullout tests.
