| Abstract: | Northwest China occupies about 30% of the total area in China. It has an abundant storage of minerals and energy sources. As the limiting factors on the economic development in Northwest China, however, the shortage of water resources and deterioration of water environment become more and more serious with the population growth and agricultural and industrial development. There are some evidences about the deterioration of water environmerit, i. e., the decline of river discharge and lake water level, intensified pollution, salinization and erosion of soil and water, etc. The water environment problems which ae closely related to the economic develop of Northwest China are discussed in detail. Some appropriate measures are suggested. The natural landscapes in the arid and semiarid regions of Northwest China are diseribed as well in the paper. |
