EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON DENSITY CURRENT WITH HYPERCONCENTRATION OF SEDIMENT

Abstract:Based on data obtained from flume tests and reservoir observation, the characteristics of rheologic feature, flow pattern, conditions of formation, etc., of density current with hyperconcentration of sediment and resistance to the density current are studied. It is found that the flow pattern of the density current front is of turbulent and its subsequent part of lamilar. Formulae for computing water depth and resistance at the plunging points are deduced, and the calculated results conform well to observed data.
