有关辽东五行山群“水母化石”的讨论

摘    要:辽东五行山群的“水母化石”(以下简称“化石”)是刘桂芝1974年冬首先发现的。后经邢裕盛、刘桂芝(1979)以及段吉业、林蔚兴(1980)的研究、描述并发表。 澳大利亚M. F. Glaessner到化石产地进行考察后认为,五行山群的“水母化石”乃是气体逃逸或水渗漏形成的构造而非水母化石1)。这引起国内地质界的广泛注意。 1981年9月,笔者实地考察了五行山群“水母化石”产地,采集了标本,进行了观察研究。并观察了沈阳地矿所和辽宁省地质局科研队的丰富标本和薄片,得到了较深刻的认识。

Abstract:In this paper,the author argued against the biogenic explanation of the medusa-like structures identified as fossils by Xin and Liu (1979).Based on the geological occurrence and morphological features,for example,the fossil’s central tubes filled by fine calcites often penetrate through several laminae,the “fossils” may appear at the same positions on the individual lower surfaces of the successive laminae,and the “fossils” are always associated with many small mounds which haven’t concentric ridge-depressions but have same central tubes as the “fossils” etc.,the author emphasized that the “fossils” might be of soft-sand deformation structures.The explanation of the “medusa fossils” from Australia (and elsewhere) as “multiple casts” made by M.Wade seems inconvincible.Therefore,the author suggested that at present level of the knowledge some of the “medusa fossils” from precambrian would better be classified to the Dubiofossils (Hofmann,1972).
