Abstract: | Kimberlites and associated igneous rocks were intruded along abyssal faults during episodes of crustal extension at the beginning of major tectonoagmatic cycles, in at least five epochs from Early Archean to Late Paleozoic. Contrary to Clifford's rule, they appear not to be particularly associated with Archean shields. Some of the kimberlites are diamond-bearing, even richly so, and diamonds and diamond indicator minerals in sedimentary strata point to undiscovered occurrences. |
