Abstract: | This paper deals mainly with the application of the mixed leapfrog symplectic integrators with adaptive timestep to a conservative post-Newtonian Hamiltonian formulation with canonical spins for spinning compact binaries. The adaptive timestep depends on the two body separation r and the magnitude of the spins. Various numerical tests including a chaotic high-eccentricity orbit show that the fixed step symplectic integrators lost drastically the good long term behaviour in the test cases with large eccentricity, the adaptive timestep integrator is always superior to the constant step in the integral precision. |
