STABILITY OF NIANCHU RIVER AFTER REGULATION BY STRAIGHTENING: A CASE STUDY FROM TIBET, CHINA
Authors:LIU Xingnian  CAO Shuyou  KNIGHT Donald W  BAN Jiu
Abstract:More than 200 km of levees were built along the Nianchu River in Tibet, China in the period 1978- 1982. The regulation involved a large number of cut-offs and straightening of meandering and braided reaches. This study focuses on the stability of the river, erosion of levees, and some particular sediment technical problems. Numerical model and physical models were employed in this study. Training approaches and strategies are suggested based upon field investigations and river stability analysis.
