Abstract:Some pyrites from coal and a natural Au crystal wer e observed by STM.A series of STM microtopography images for these samples were obtained.For pyrite, apparent micromorphological differences between samples grown under diff e rent conditions were shown by STM, which is helpful to the study of coal genesis . For Au cryatal, growth spiral of different shapes and other phenomena on the s urface were observed clearly. Analyses of these images based on crystal growth m ec hanism and crystal structure suggested that the sample crystal was cryatallized out from solution under high temperatue by multiple mechanisms. An SPM quantitative micromorphology analysis software SPMIAS was developed and has been tested on a compact disk. SPMIAS can be used to calculate various micromorphology parameter s, including Ra, Rq, Rp, Rm, Ry, Rz, Sm,tp,ACF, PSP, Rsa, Rsq, Rsp, Rsm,Rsy ,tsp,SADF and SBAC, easily from SPM images. Images at the same position on the disk but with different sca nning ranges were obtained under the same experimental conditions. Micromorpholo gy parameters were calculated and compared, and the relationship between the cha nging scanning range and the changing micromorphology parameters was summarized.
