| Abstract: | Investigation of the trips of the city inhabitants is the base of urban communications and transportation planning, urban construction and administration. The data of the trips of 10 000 families in 1998 in Guangzhou are analysed,as compared with those in 1984. A series of indexes of trip intensity, trip way, and temporal and spatial distribution of trips are derived. The rules, and characteristics of the trips of the urban inhabitants in Guangzhou are concluded. The following conditions should be considered for development of urban communications:the increase of inhabitant trips, the elongation of trip distance, the increase of trip time, the high proportion of personal traffic, the huge transportation volume of crossing the Pearl River, and the distinct transportation peak value in rush bours, etc.It is suggested that public transit, high-speed transportation system, and no-handicap sidewalk system should be constructed. |
