| Abstract: | INTRODUCTION In the analysis of the planktonic samples collected from the transection survey of the East China Sea (28°-34°N,west to 127°E) from December,1977 to November,1978,and the survey of the South China Sea(12°-19°30'N,111°-118°E) from September,1983 to December,1984,we found some female specimens belonging to Spinoecia,but different from all the known species in the genus.Based on comparisons,we have identified such specimen as a new species in the genus and named it as Spirroecia crassispina to demonstrate its unique characteristics of having many stout spines on the frontal organ capitulum. |
