| Abstract: | The author describes the evolution of ICES and the development of its current structures and functions. He shows how cooperation has occurred within ICES in the field of collecting scientific data on fish stocks, and considers the extent to which it has promoted and developed research in the marine biological and oceanographic fields. The author concludes that ICES provides an excellent example of international cooperation in marine affairs, and that it can serve as a model for the development of other international scientific bodies in this field. |
