Abstract: | A method for deriving mixing ratios in the outer planets, mostly independent of scattering processes, is applied to Uranus. It is shown that scattering processes play a major role in the line formation in the atmospheres of Uranus and Neptune; consequently, abundance ratios derived from a reflecting-layer model can be questionable. Using our method, we derive for Uranus , which is significantly smaller than our result on Jupiter. The simplest explanation implies a C/H enrichment by at least a factor of 6 relative to the solar value. |
