| Abstract: | Large and especially large bridges are major engineering projects, and there are higher requirements of evaluating faulting activity for the bridge site area. This paper briefs the general account of building bridges in China in recent years, points out potential earthquake disasters to large bridges, depicts the current situation of evaluating faulting activity for large bridge sites and the commonly used methods. Finally, the paper puts forward the identification standards of faulting activity for large bridge sites, including the following 5 aspects: 1. defining the meaning of the active fault that engineering called for; 2. zoning activity of the active fault; 3. ascertaining whether there are surface and near-surface leap action near the site; 4. studying probable motion pattern of the fault; 5. assessing probable direction of action of the largest seismic force. |
