Abstract:Coronas which have been developed between olivine and plagioclase in Precambrian gabbroic rocks from Thessaloniki, Greece, have been studied. These consist commonly of (olivine), clinopyroxene, amphibole (plagioclase) and rarely of (olivine) orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene amphibole (plagioclase) assemblages. The results of the electron-probe microanalysis of the above constituent minerals are presented. The formation of these coronas by regional or thermal metamorphism is unlikely, but an origin by a two-way diffusion of material across the olivine and plagioclase interface is proposed.
