Abstract: | A generalized principle of invariance is derived for a plane-parallel atmosphere. On the basis of this principle a method for determining the radiation field in a multilayer atmosphere is proposed. This method, the first part of which is the well-known adding method, permits the application to problems involving optically finite as well as semi-infinite atmospheres. The reflecting boundaries may be incorporated, though in that case it is not possible to use the adding method.Some numerical results are given for the standard and Milne problems and for the problem with internal sources. |
