| Abstract: | In the Eastern Alps the study of heavy minerals from Cretaceous and Early Tertiary sediments enables us to distinguish at least three different provinces.- 1.
The deposits of Helveticum and the lower parts of Penninicum contain predominantly zircon, together with varying quantities of rutile, tourmaline and apatite.
