大荔人头骨化石产地地层的再研究

摘    要:1978年发现大荔人头骨化石以来 ,都认为该化石是产自中更新世晚期的地层中 ,一些学者一直认为其年龄是 180~ 2 0 0 ka B.P.,也有个别研究者认为是 2 30 ka、大于 2 5 0 ka、30 8ka B.P.的。实际上 ,不仅对化石的年龄有不同数据 ,对化石产地地层也有不同的划分与对比。经再研究 ,该区晚新生代地层从上上新统直到全新统都有发育。沉积类型有湖相 ,河流相和风成黄土—古土壤沉积。人类化石层应是上中更新统的下部或下中更新统的上部 ,或更靠下。

Restudy on the Strata of the Fossil Dali Man Locality

Abstract:The Quaternary strata of Tianshuigou gully at Jiefancun district, Dali County, Shaanxi Province, have been studied by several geologists. Most of the researchers focused their attention on the age of the fluvial stratum which bears the famous fossil Dali Man skull. Different researchers have different opinions about the age of the fossil man bearing bed, because different age dating methods were used and different stratigraphic correlation and division were applied. Which of the ages is near the truth? The strata of Tianshuigou and around that area are restudied, the stratigraphic section is measured in detail, the fossil specimens are excavated and the samples of susciptibility(SI) are collected. The strata at Tianshuigou gully and Jiefangcun district consist of three kinds of sediments ranging from the top to the bottom, which are: loess paleosol sequence, fluvial and lacustrine accumulations. The loess paleosol sequence is about 20m in thickness including the eolian deposits of the Holocene, Late Pleistocene and part of Middle Pleistocene. There are at least seven paleosol layers, thicker or thinner, in that area, forming four major paleosol layers, i.e. S 0,S 1(S 1 1,S 2 1,S 3 1),S 2(S 1 2,S 2 2) and S 3. To check the correction of our observation and division of these paleosols, SI samples are collected from two sections at different places and SI curve lines are measured to be in the same shape as those in Luocuan, Weinan, Baoji and Lantian. It indicats that the judgment about the four paleosol layers in Tianshuigou and around that area is correct. The age of the lowest boundary of S 3 is 330Ka B.P.. The fluvial deposits of that area are about 25m thick. From the top to the bottom, there is a suite of interbedding of silt and clay firstly, then coarse sands, and finally, the layer of sand gravel and both the coarse sands and sand gravel are all with developed cross bedding. A lot of mammalian, bivalvian fossils were found from the sand gravel deposits, they are: Castoridae, Stegodon orientalis, Paleoloxodon naumanni, Equus cf. yunnanensis, Rhinoceros sp., Coelodonta antiquitatis, Megaloceros pachyosteus, Pseudaxis grayi, Gazella sp., Bubalus teihlardi, Struthio anderssoni, Lamprotula bazini, etc.. Apart from them, there is a little of fragment of ostrich egg shell, bones of fish and a large amount of artifact tools. The lacustrine accumulation underling the fluvial deposits consists of two parts. The upper part is a set of red brown sandy clay containing some smaller gravel, about 20m thick, and yielding the typical Early Pleistocene mammalian fossils, such as, Archidiscodon planifrons, Equus sanmeniensis, Elaphurus bifurcatus, etc.. It could be compared with Sanman Formation of early Early Pleistocene; The lower part is clay and silt clay in blue gray, gray green colors, and only a couple of meters are exposed. It could be correlated lithologically with that of Late Pliocene Youhe Formation. Except that the preserving conditions are not in the cave deposit, the major features of the mammalian assemblage from the fluvial deposits around Jiefangcun district are quite similar to those from the No.8—9 layer of Locality 1, Zhoukoutian, Beijing. The latter has been correlated with S 4 of loess paleosol sequence in loess plateau and with the stage 11 of δ 16 O of deep sea deposits. The age of the lowest boundary of S 4 and the stage 11 is respectively 410Ka and 440Ka B.P.. As Dali fauna has the similar characteristics to those of No.8—9 layer of Locality 1, Zhoukoutian, it would be able to have the same correlation and the same age with that of No.8—9 layer. Since the fluvial deposits of Dali region have their own special chara cters of lithology, chronology, paleontology and paleoenvironment, and contains typical Middle Pleistocene mammalian fauna, we would like to propose that Dali Formation be established as the representative of Middle Pleistocene sediments.
