摘    要:震源机制是地震学上很有意义的一个问题.关于这个问题,目前日本、苏联、美国、加拿大和印度尼西亚等国的学者都在研究.在这些国家中他们是各有一套方法的.在美国和加拿大所用的方法是很早以前P.Byerly提出的.这方法的原理如下:当断层错动时,在断层面两边的岩体中形成了压缩区与膨涨区。

NOTES ON THE FAULT-PLANE DETERMINATIONS BY MEANS OF INITIAL MOTIONS OF EARTHQUAKES

Abstract:The present paper starts with a brief discussion of the fauh-plane technique as initiated by Byerly and then extended by Hodgson and Scheidegger. Attempts are made to generalize their working formulae and the following results are obtained: (1) The epicentral distance θ of the extended position is given by, where ih is the angle between the earth's radius passing through the focus and the initial direction of the seismic ray reaching the station, R, the earth's radius and H, the focal depth. The distance O'B of the stereographic projection of this extended position from the center of the equatorial plane is given by O'B=Rtanθ/2. (2) The epicentral distance θn of any point on the nodal line of the SV waves is given by where cf is the angle between the direction of dislocation and the earth's radius passing through the focus, α is the angle between the line connecting the epicenter with the pole of motion and the line connecting the epicenter with the point on the nodal line. (3) The dipping angle δ of the fault-plane is given by where θ' is the epicentral distance of the intersection of the extension of the fault-plane at the focus with the earths surface. Any of the above formulae would be reduced to the corresponding one as given by Byerly, Hodgson and Scheidegger when we put H=0. Basing on the results of Soviet seismologists. we also propose a method for the determination of the direction of forces of dislocation by means of data from a single station, provided the focal depth and epicentral distance of the earthquake are known. The result is coscf=cosθcosih+sinθsinih, cosβ,where cf and ih have the same meanings as before. If two line are drawn respectively from the epicenter to the pole of motion and any extended position, the angle Az between these lines is given by where β is the angle between the direction of displacement of the S waves with the plane of incidence,θ is the angle between the seismic ray with the direction of dislocation.
