| Abstract: | The governing equations for the induction of electromagnetic fields in the ocean by ionospheric and oceanic sources are presented. A uniformly conducting layered model and a nonuniformly conducting thin-sheet model are discussed with reference to the interpretation of fields observed in the ocean. A procedure for the separation of the electric field continuum into parts of ionospheric and oceanic origin is presented. |
