| Abstract: | The paper reports the training of the Yellow River mouth for stabilization of the river channel in 1988. The training project achieved great success and has extended the used life of the Qingshuigou channel for 10 years. The channel may be stabilized for long term usage because the sea current can carry sediment for away from the river mouth. The amphidromic point near the Dongying harbor is not affected by the shift of the Yellow River channel and extension of the river mouth spit. Since the Yellow River shifted from Diaokouhe channel to the Qingshuigou channel the tidal current in the estuary area has been strengthened following extending of the river spit. A high tidal current belt was found extending from the river mouth to the amphidromic point with highest tidal current velocity 2.31 m/s.
