Fjord Land and Coast Land of Western Norway |

Abstract: | THE VALLEY through which the Bergen-Oslo railway runs is cut into the northern part of Hardangervidda. This high plateau has a moderately rolling relief, 1100—1400 m above sea level. A remarkable feature is its regenerated sub-Cambrian peneplane, which carries a partially preserved cover of soft phyllites ( = slightly metamorphic mica schists). In parts these are again overlain by plutonic Caledonian rocks which were brought into this position by overthrusting from the northwest. |
