摘    要:本文介绍了国外利用AMS14C法研究极冰、海水中溶解的碳、大气中含碳,深海沉积含碳物等的最新进展和成果。这些成果表明,由于AMS14C法测定需要的样品量仅是常规测定用量的千分之一,因而为在地学领域中的应用开辟了广阔的前景。我国的AMS14C方法研究已经起步,新方法的建成和使用必将推动有关学科的进一步发展。

ON THE APPLICATIONS OF AMS (14)C METHOD IN GEOSCIENCES

Abstract:14C method is well known as an important dating tool in geology and archaeology since it was born 40 years ago. 14C acts a tracer, a clock or both them in many fields of study, for example, cosmic ray, geomagnetic field, solar activity, carbon cycle, atmosphere and ocean etc. Taking the 'industrial effect', the 'nuclear bomb effect' into consideration, improving β counting method and introducing correction method of dendrochronology, the accuracy and precise of 14C dating are greatly increased. An advanced AMS 14C method, depending on counting the total number of 14C atoms, was developed ten years ago. It needs as small as a few milligram carbon for dating, so it wlll be further applied to many sorts of investigation. 1. The polar ice dating combined with stable isotope measurements would help to learn the formation and melting of ice, sea level changes, paleoclimate and the gas composition of ancient atmosphere etc. 2. Carbon involved in sea water exists in the form of CO2, HCO3-,CO32- dissolved. Knowing the distribution of 14C in the ocean would help to understand the changes between atmosphere and CO2 dissolved in sea surface layer, the vertical mixing rate and the moving of sea water etc. Using AMS 14C method only several hundred milliliters of sea water are required. 3. AMS 14C method to enable the determination of the 14C concentration in air samples would be applied in studying atmosphere circulation and the human activity influence on environment and climate. 4. 14C dating of sediments has been applied in a wide extension of study fields. As usual, it is limited in sample weights when the drill core samples used, especially the single sort of samples selected. So AMS 14C method may be used frequently. For example, as dating the single sort of planktonic foraminifera and benthonic foraminifera handpicked from the deep sea core, the influence of bioturbations would be reduced and then the correct date of the climate abrupt changes would be provided.
