Abstract:We describe an indirect or “passive” SETI in 25 globular clusters, observed for astronomical reasons at the water and hydroxyl lines. No beacon signals were found in a sample of up to 107 stars and upper limits to the maximum EIRPs of beacons were 1016–1021W. Ways of enhancing the value of other astronomical spectral line observing programs for SETI purposes are discussed.
