| Abstract: | The formation of young geological structures in Pribaikalye has frequently been controlled by structural anisotropy of the basement. Orientation of the stress field associated with rifting favoured a parallelism of rift structures with ancient dislocations, primarily of northeastern trend, but sometimes submeridional or sublatitudinal. The initiation of the Baikal rift along the boundary between the Siberian platform and the Sayan—Baikal fold belt was likely associated with recurrent renewal of activity of a deep-seated energy source under East Siberia. |
