Abstract:Some Theological parameters of the. upper mantle beneath Wangqing, Jilin province, China were inferred from Wangqing peridotite xenoliths by applying pyroxene ther-mobarometry, dislocation wall spacing paleopiezometry and -olivine high temperature creep-flow law data. The flow rates ε of the upper mantle show a general increase with depth, whereas the equivalent viscosities η show a general decrease with depth.The data of the flow rates and equivalent viscosities of the upper mantle were plotted on the flow rate ε/depth and viscosity η/depth diagrams compiled by Mercier (1980), and found that all data fell in the field of the continent extension zones and rifts. It is obvious that the upper mantle beneath Wangqing has been characteristic of oceanic mantle, and the Wangqing region has been characteristic of continent extension zones and rifts since Cenozoic era.
